On the Label
Grown on our family estate, one of the most sublime sites on the Naramata Bench, our Pinot Gris is redolent of ripe pear & apricot, almond, orange blossom & chamomile.
This wine is exclusively made from grapes grown on our family estate, planted in 2008. Forgotten Hill’s vineyard is located at a breathtaking 2100 feet of altitude, on a gentle south-west facing plateau. The sandy, gravelly soil is free-draining, and our vines are seldom irrigated, even during a growing season as record-breakingly hot and long as 2015 was. We left a little more foliage in the canopy than we normally would, in order to prevent scorching of the berries, and we were rewarded with sweet, compact clusters bursting with concentrated flavours.
The 2015 Pinot Gris was harvested October 3rd, 2015, over the course of one long, hot day. Picked at 23.9 degrees Brix, this wine was first whole-cluster pressed, then split into two stainless steel tanks. Both tanks were treated to a long, cool ferment with a different strain of yeast in each. Fermentation proceeded steadily over a period of 23 days, and once blended back together, the decadent, juicy peach, pear and almond notes were clearly at the forefront of the palate, supported by the stony and floral notes we’ve come to expect from our Pinot Gris.
